Reseach of designing for Blind people

We have picked two types of eye disease patients, eye disease definitely would affect their normal livings, they cannot be like the normal people to enjoy the natural views in the same way. We hope to design a device at the tourist pathway for them to experience and enjoy seeing in a better way.

What we have done so far:
- Set up the location as the tourist pathway
- How convex work
- Did some research on smart glass
- Do testing for the magnifier

Through the testing, we found out the different depends on distances between two magnifiers. Also, it change the size of the things that we saw through the magnifier, but when the distance become further, the view become up-side-down, so we still need to consider the viewing problem.

The theory of how magnifier works.

We selected Victoria Harbour become the view that for the users to look at.

Our design idea:

Convex and concave mirror putting at a curtain distance and become a telescope. We found out when we put them together in a further distance, the object that we see will be larger, but the area of what we see in there will be smaller. The other round, when two convex put in a closer distance, the object that we see will be smaller and the viewing area will be larger.

Base on the needs of the users, two convex can be adjusted with the sensors. For example, when the user want to see partial view, the person can get closer to the magnifer, the object become larger. If the user wants to turn and change the direction, the magnifier will turn following by the user himself.

Why we choose the blind people as we design target?

Losing some or all of sight can be very distressing and have a big effect on blind people’s life. People tell us that they struggle with a range of emotion from shock, anger, sadness and frustration, to depression and grief, This is quite normal and understandably coping with these emotion can be very difficult.

Action can provide blind people with practical support needed to adapt to change in their life. We want to provide environment to help them and make them feel more relation.
